National Flood Insurance Program Fails to See Long-Term Extension

After it had been extended for an entire year starting in Sept. 2010, lawmakers appear to have pushed the program back into the cycle of short-term extensions, leaving some to wonder when the National Flood Insurance Program will finally receive a solid, long-term extension.
National Flood Insurance Program Extended to Dec. 16
Last week, the Senate passed a short-term funding bill shortly after the House of Representatives, approving a number of spending measures that would fund the government and avoid a federal shutdown at the end of the week.
Included in the bill was an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program, allowing the program to receive funding until Dec.

Allstate Insurance to Drop Non-Bundled Homeowners Insurance Policies in North Carolina

Homeowners who dont agree to purchase the additional auto insurance coverage will not be allowed to renew their policies.

Allstate, a property and casualty insurance company, recently informed 45,000 homeowners that they will not renew policies which are not combined with an Allstate commercial or private auto insurance policy by Dec.

Insurance Companies Propose End to Flood Insurance Program Subsidies
Written by Tiffany Mitchell on November 10, 2011 – 3:47 pmA coalition that includes various insurance companies is asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to end all subsidies granted by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) within five years. The coalition, organized by SmarterSafer.org, asked in a letter sent to Congress last week to also have additional changes to the program.
Lawmakers Struggle to Manage Flood Insurance Program
Lawmakers have been working over the past year to revamp the NFIP, which is responsible for implementing flood insurance guidelines and ensuring that private insurance companies appropriately administer policies to consumers.
In recent times, the program struggled to stay afloat with funding and zoning issues, as well as disagreements among lawmakers on whether wind coverage should be included, resulting in the program expiring on numerous occasions.
Last September, lawmakers passed the Flood Insurance Reform Priorities Act of 2010, which extended the program for a year and gave lawmakers the opportunity to decide how they wanted to handle the program. Then
