Survey shows Americans unresponsive to life insurance

According to a recently conducted survey by the LIFE Foundation, just 2 percent of American adults reported they planned to purchase life insurance in the next 30 days, but when those surveyed were told they only had 30 days to live, the number increased to 62 percent.
Americans usually avoid securing a life insurance policy because they believe they will have time to purchase it in the future, but a tragedy could happen at any time.
“The reality that millions of Americans refuse to admit is that its never a question of if they will die, but when that day will come,” said Marvin Feldman, president and CEO of the LIFE Foundation.

White House May Look to Compromise on Contraception Decision
Written by Steven Rivera on February 9, 2012 – 8:32 amThe White House may be open to compromising on a new rule that requires religious schools and hospitals to provide employees with access to free birth control, a senior strategist for President Obama said on Tuesday morning.
David Axelrod, who serves as a top adviser to Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program that the president would “look for a way” to address the vocal opposition from Catholic groups who say the rule forces them to violate their religious beliefs against contraception.
“We certainly don’t want to abridge anyone’s religious freedoms, so we’re going to look for a way to move forward that both provides women with the preventative care that they need and respects the prerogatives of religious institutions,” Mr. Axelrod said.

Life insurance showed stability in 2011

According to the MIB Life Index, applications for individually underwritten life insurance in the United States showed stability in 2011.
The MIB Life Index has now shown stability three years in a row compared with five years ago, when the industry saw year-over-year decreases.
“The stability that its shown in this difficult economy bodes well for the industry, as its an affirmation that people really recognize a need for life insurance,” said Lee Oliphant, CEO and president of MIB Group.
