Dog Bites Represent More Than One-Third of Home Insurance Claims
Written by Tiffany Mitchell on August 29, 2011 – 7:11 pmA new report from the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) revealed that dog bites represented more than one third of home insurance claims in 2010. Despite this high number of claims, the I.I.I. found that dog bites remained relatively consistent with those in the year prior.
Nearly $413 Million Paid in Liability Claims
According to the I.I.I., nearly $413 million was paid out in home insurance claims as a result of dog bites. While the total claims payouts were slightly higher than in 2009, the number of dog bites claims decreased to 15,770 in 2010 from 16,586 a year prior.
Some reasons for the rise in claims payouts despite the decrease in claims made were increases in medical costs, the size of settlements, judgments and jury awards to plaintiffs.

Super Bowl Sunday Results in Increased Auto Claims
Written by admin on February 9, 2010 – 6:24 amCar insurers always expect an increase in the number of claims filed the week following the Super Bowl. The increase can be attributed to alcohol consumption and more notably, pizza.
Pizzerias will see as much as a 50 percent increase in total sales resulting in an increased need for pizza delivery. With the greater amount of pizza being delivered, there is a greater chance of accidents.
According to Business Week, pizza delivery is the ninth-most dangerous work sector. In 2008 there were 22.8 fatalities out of every 100,000 full-time workers which is excluding part-time delivery workers.
Many auto insurers will not insure pizza delivery drivers under personal auto insurance policies.
